 St George's Day, England's National Day, is on 23 April and this year, 2009, will see it being celebrated in style!
The London Mayor Boris Johnson said: 'St George’s Day has been ignored in London for far too long. We have much to be proud of in this great country, England has given so much to the world, politically, socially and artistically. St George’s Day is a time to celebrate the very best of everything English and the Cross of St George will proudly fly outside City Hall on 23rd April. ”

How to celebrate St. George's Day
- Wear a red rose for England in your jacket lapel. As the national flower of England, the rose is a symbol of patriotic pride
- Read the “Legend of St. George and the Dragon”
- Fly the flag of St. George. Many official buildings will fly the flag on St. George’s Day
- Attend on the many St. George’s Day events taking place throughout England
- Go a pub crawl and support the English pubs, which are under a threat from closure.
- Eat fish & chips, England's favourite take away meal.
London will celebrate the English patron saint with a week of free events including parades, food festivals and theatrical events from 18 to 25 April.

The V&A Museum of Childhood will host traditional English events such as Morris Dancing, Maypole dancing, Punch and Judy show.

Leicester Square Theatre will host a "miscellany of Music Hall" for St George's Day from 2.30pm.
There will be a Shakespeare celebration at the Globe theatre. A free family event from midday to 5pm (last entry 4.30pm). There will be sonneteers, plus interactive games and activities to unlock the timeless beauty of Shakespeare's verse and language.

 A free, family-friendly St George's Day Concert in Trafalgar Square. It is a unique opportunity to hear some of the finest folk inspired music coming out of England today.
It features acclaimed musicians Seth Lakeman, Eliza Carthy, Jim Moray, Kathryn Tickell and Bishi, artists who are reaching new audiences and finding innovative ways to express music that is inspired by English folk tradition.

The St George's Day 10K Road Race starts and finishes at the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel and Sticklebarn Tavern, Great Langdale, near Ambleside
Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th April 2009- St George's Joust.
Cressing Temple, Witham Road, Braintree, Essex
10am to 5pm. Celebrate England's patron saint at a full weekend showcasing warfare through the ages. Marvel at mounted knights crossing lances in this spectacular old English sport. Jousts at 12.30 and 3.30pm. Falconry at 2pm. Catch knights in shining armour and archers in battle. Sideshows all day and a medieval market.

St George's Day Celebrations 2009 Birmingham city centre.
Victoria Square will have a stage with live music from The Fab Beatles, Kerfuffle and many more, as well as a fun dragon slide and dragon-making workshops for children.
Chamberlain Square will see a variety of entertainment, including sword-fighting demonstrations from the Knights of Middle England and their horses, as well as traditional folk and Morris dancing.
Traditional English nosh will be on the menu, with a whole pig roast as well as ales and ciders from local breweries. Also, New Street will see an English Craft and Farmers Market offer tasty treats and traditional souvenirs to take away.
