Thai Silk |
|
Find out how silk is produced. |
|
Thailand is
famous for silk.
There are many shops selling silk around Thailand.
The photos below show the outside and inside of a Thai silk shop
and how silk is produced.
From the worm
to the material. How
silk is produced.
 |
The mulberry tree is very important
in the production of silk.
It is the food source for the
silk worms. |
|
Silk worms feed on the large mulberry
leaves until they are one month old. Then the worms build a cocoon
from their spittle. |
 |
 |
The cocoons are collected and placed
in hot water. This process kills the worms. The thread (filament)
from each cocoon is about 2000 feet long.
