Sports Day Update

Having looked at the weather forecast for Tuesday, it seems that it is going to be exceptionally hot in the afternoon.

As a result we have reluctantly decided to cancel the afternoon part of the Sports Day.
The morning races will begin at around 9:15 and we hope to complete by about 11:00. Please ensure that all children have PE kits, sunhats, water bottles and have applied suncream before they arrive in the morning.

We are looking into the possibility of rescheduling the activity afternoon to the last week of term - so watch this space!

We look forward to seeing you in the morning if you can make it.

Sports Day - Tuesday 30th June

A reminder that it is our Sports Day tomorrow. Part One, at 9.15, will be a series of competitive races in each year group. Part Two, at 1.15, will be a more informal, fun afternoon with a series of activities with all the children having a turn.

Please ensure that your child has a water bottle, sun hat and some sun cream on the day. Please name all items if possible.

You are very welcome to join us at either (or both) sessions. Refreshments will be available courtesy of the Friends Association.

Travel Information for Year 6 Pupils and their Parents and Carers

These booklets on transition for use with year 6 pupils have been produced by Kent Highways Agency. The aim is to prepare them for their new journey to secondary school. The activities explore the child’s feelings about transition, and guide them through making decisions about how to travel safely, providing them with useful information and resource details on the way. The booklet is designed to be printed double sided on A4 paper.

Travel transition leaflet for Year 6 pupils

They have also designed a booklet for parents/carers of these pupils which gives advice on choosing the most suitable (and hopefully sustainable) way for your child to get to their new school. It also gives tips on how to prepare your child for a safe journey.

Travel transition guide for parents and carers June 2009

Please take the time to download these files and talk through any concerns that your child might have about how they will travel to their new school.

Environmental Science Day

Tomorrow (Tuesday 23rd June) is our Environmental Science Day. Could you please send your child to school with a change of clothes that is suitable for working outside in, and possibly getting dirty, including appropriate footwear.

We are also attempting to fill the pond with water and each year group will be forming a human water chain passing half full small buckets. To allow this to happen could your child please bring a small bucket, like those used to build sandcastles, to school with their name and class clearly labelled.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs Brown
Science Co-ordinator

Skipping Workshops

On Monday and Tuesday we were visited by Ken and Amanda from Skipping Workshops who taught the children some great new skipping moves to try out on the playground. Skipping is not only a fun way to spend your time, but also a fantastic way to keep fit and healthy. There are four different types of skipping: individual, pairs, long rope and double dutch, each with extra tricks you can add in as you get more confident.
On Monday afternoon and again just before lunch on Tuesday we had demonstration assemblies where the children (and some members of staff) showed off their newly learned skills. James C from Year 5 was particularly talented in the art of speed skipping (a record breaker in the making!).
Skipping Workshops has an online facility to register your scores in a National Competition, so that you can keep track of your own progress, challenge yourself to reach personal goals and see how your skills compare to others from around the country. If you are interested in doing so, follow the link below:

www.skipping-workshops.co.uk

For those children who have not had a chance to buy a skipping rope so far, they will be on sale again during playtime and lunchtime tomorrow. Ropes are either £4 or £5.50 depending upon the length needed.

Painted Lady Butterfly

I wonder how long it would take to fly 1,000 miles from Africa to England? That is exactly what Painted Lady butterflies have done. These butterflies are from north Africa, but migrate to Europe seeking cooler temperatures each year.
Painted Lady butterflies have orange, black and white-spotted wings. How many have you seen?
