I was a pupil here 6 years ago. I left in 2001 from Mrs Peppard's class in Hut 12. I thoroughly enjpyed my time at Woodlands, made lots of good friends and I would advise any parents that live in the area to send their children there. I have done very well achedemically, when I left I went to Hugh Christie; which I have also enjoyed and I have passed all my GCSEs a year early! I am going into further education next year, here at Hugh Chrisite. I just wanted to say THANKYOU to all of the staff that helped make my learning fun and those who really made my childhood school days special. Special thanks to Mrs Peppard, Mr Billard, Miss Barrow, Mrs Ambrose, Mr Smith and Mr Mannering. I also had a great time on the French trip where we all got plastered in mud!!! it was an amazing experience and all my other friends still talk about it now. Thank you so much. Jade Roberts (now 16)

I was also a pupil here 6 years ago. I totally (if not more so) agree with every thing Jade (See Above) has said and we were infact in the same class!!!!!
I thought I'd leave a message because tonight I saw the School on 'Meridian Tonight' (29/3/07) and the school was praised for this fantastic website!!!
Unlike my mate Jade, at the end of year 6, when we all had to part ways, I decided that Hayesbrook was the school for me (Although naturally I would have stayed at Wonderful Woodlands if I could!!!).
At this current moment I am supposed to be revising because I am in the midst of my daunting GCSE's. It is funny because on the internet, I have searched high and low and forwards and backwards for basically anything that can aid me in getting the best possible grades I can achieve, and this website seems to have absolutely everything I need and much more! Who would have thought it? My incredible and tremendous Primary School is still helping me even now, 6 years on! However, I can only hope to get close to the supreme and unbeaten results of Miss Jade Roberts!!!
I have also recently (Today Infact), received conformation from The Hillview School, who have accepted me to further my education next year in their 6thform facilities.
My current friends at Hayesbrook mostly come from High Brooms (in Tunbridge Wells), so I find few primary school reminiscences with them, however I wouldn’t have changed any part of my magnificent time at Woodlands for the World!!!!!!!!!!

(Just a quick shout-out to one of the year6 students called RACHEL MARCROFT who rocks everyone’s socks!!!!!!!!!!)

I didn't really visit the site to look around it. Well, I did, but that was only back I found some old pictures of when I was at the school and wanted to see how it had changed. My name is Jennifer O'Donnell and I left in year 4 in 1998 (I think). I'm 18 this year and am going to Fiji next year for my gap year, and going to Uni in Canterbery with a years study in Japan. I guess it's just nice to remember my old primary school ^^
I would like to know if any of my old teachers are still working there and how much the school has changed. My address is rainney7@hotmail.com if anyone can contact me ^-^

For Bank Street School ex pupils

I have worked for Warners Solicitors for nearly 30 years and in March 2007 the firm moved from their old offices in the High Street (after 222 years) to Bank House (formerly Bank Street School). As I am also a former pupil of Bank Street School, and a keen historian, this event encouraged me to write a history of this building for my own amusement and highlight its importance within the town.

Originally there were two buildings on the site used as rental property by their owner Elizabeth Clarke at the end of the 17th century. She gave the properties over to the town for the benefit of the poor. By 1728 a workhouse stood on the site but when the Workhouse Union built a new workhouse at Pembury (now Pembury Hospital) the building became The National School. In 1965 Bank Street School shut its doors for the last time as the children transferred to the new school at Woodlands. The building limped on in many temporary guises until it was finally replaced by a more modern version retaining only the facia of the first two floors at the front.

In Arthur Neve's, Tonbridge of Yesterday published in 1933, he wrote that within living memory people could remember seeing poor women spinning flax and men gathering water from the horse wash to use in the laundry during the workhouse years. This neatly demonstrates that the history of a building should not just be a collection of facts and figures but needs our memories to give that history life. In this spirit, therefore, I would like to add the memories and photographs of past pupils of the school. If you were a former pupil of Bank Street School and would like to share your memories please get in touch. All materials supplied will only be used with the strict permission of their owner.

    Thank you.

Firstly, It's truly amazing to see how well the school is doing, after having left Woodlands many moons ago!

The websites still looking great and is jamm-packed with alot of infomation.

I just looked at the videos you've had played on TV. What an achievment for the school.

But, just thought I'd leave a few words on how thrilled I am for the school to be as widely respected all over the world.
    Well done.

    hello to you all
as an ex pupil from 1965,i thought i must write after visiting your website. Its been wonderful looking back at the history and seeing the photos of ex pupils many i reconise, many memories. The country dancing club.Ican remember going to cage green school it must have been for a competition with other schools. Then we had recorder club .Like Penny Jones(she was in the year above me)i to remember the apples. And Mr Blackman playing the piano i am sure he only had one arm as well.We used to have lots of jumble sales, spring fayres, christmas fayres, all to raise money for the pool gosh it was cold in the pool.I lived in Hunt road our garden backed onto the school so i did not have far to go.My mum was one of the first school cleaners, and if they were short of dinner ladies i would often be sent home with a message to see if my mum could help out.(we was not on the phone in those days)I to remember going to keswick we were the first year to host the keswick children when they came to tonbridge.I do no live in Tonbridge now but visit occasionally, i have two great nieces who attend the school Dekara and Selina Dolly.I have a photo of mrs Beaty in keswick,i must send it to you.

    keep up the good work

    love valerie(Batchelor) Goodwin

Just found the website while googling for bank holidays 2008. I couldn't believe it. I was a pupil in 1966/1967. I now live in Rochdale. Although I can't remember the names of any teachers or classmates, looking through the pictures brought back memories. Playing recorder in the christmas concert; somone breaking their collar bone after hitting the wall at the end of the playground playing chain-tig; a teacher, it may have been the headmaster, showing us his boomerang skills on the playing fields. Great to see the school is still going strong.

I left Woodlands in 1982, having started in Woodlands Infants in 1976. There's photos of my brother on the site, I'm sure there's some of my classes. I loved my years at Woodlands. I'll never forget looking after Pets Corner during my first year. Does anyone remember how we all cried buckets after Omo died? Mr Manning became head in my last year. Before that we had Mr Oldfield, who was a tough act to follow! I'm actually still in touch with Mrs Beaty, who now lives in Belgium.

It's great to look around the site and being an education librarian in a university, I can now recommend the site with books online, etc to my students, it's brilliant.

My name is Alison Farr. I have been taking a trip down memory lane, looking around this site and Tonbridge also! I left Woodlands in 1982 after passing my 11+ and reluctantly leaving most of my mates to go to Weald of Kent Girls grammar. Left Tonbridge in 1983 and moved to Isle of Wight where I've lived on & off ever since! I was in Miss McRae's class and it would be great to see any photos anyone has or if anyone remembers me!? I have some relly good memories of this school and glad to see it's still going strong!

I was just browsing on the internet and decided to go on the woodlands games to see if they were still as good as they use to be, I'm glad to see that Harry Potter game is still there, but I'm gutted that I still can't get past level 8 on rush hour, it depresses me as that's how far I got in year 6.
I have so many amazing memories from my early years of education, so thank you, especailly Mrs Peppard, an amazing teacher!

    Hello!

I'm Sarah Turner, I left Woodlands in 1998. I'm currently in Japan studying Japanese as part of my 3rd year of a Modern Languages degree at Birmingham University - and I spent this afternoon preparing an English lesson on England. I was surprised (and very happy!) to see that a Woodlands page was the first that came up when I searched for 'British Traditions' on Google :) I'll have to pass the website address on to the students...

So many happy memories of Woodlands - and I've been working on the TMBC Summer Playscheme there for the past two summers so it's been nice to go back and see it again. The new building's amazing!

    Hi

I left Woodlands in 1994 - it seems so long ago now! I had such a great time at the school and only have many very happy memories from my time there like attending country dancing classes before school started or Mr Bellinger singing when we went to the Wye Valley! Do the students still go to Wales in year 6? Mrs McRae was a great teacher and I was in her class for year 6 - no better person to send you off to secondary school than her! It's great to see the school's website up and running and being so popular. I feel a reunion coming on...
