The Town Crier

Town Criers carry on an art and tradition which dates back to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The job of a Town crier is to deliver news and instructions in a clear, loud voice. This was especially important in the past when many of the pouplation could neither read nor write

Town Criers carry, and use, a hand bell with which to summon the attention of citizens before giving a proclamation.
