Postage Stamps - 'Off with the Queen's Head!'

Postage stamps can now be bought on the Internet and printed out to envelopes at home under a scheme unveiled by the Royal mail on 19 September 2006.

The new 'internet stamps' do not have the Queen's head on them, ending a tradition dating back more than 160 years. The Queen's head has been replaced by a new form of barcode.

Great Britain was the first country to issue stamps, in 1840, and the Monarchs head has graced our stamps since then.
