The aim of the month is to increase awareness of local history, promote history in general to the local community and encourage all members of the community to participate.

Activities happen across the UK and include trips, library exhibitions and local lectures. It is a great way for groups to highlight local history and for local people to get involved.

Bedtime stories, fairy stories, any other story you can think of! Everyone loves a story! Throughout May the Federation of Children's Book Groups is celebrating the power of story.

Europe Day, 9 May, marks the anniversary of the day in 1950 when the European Union was conceived. French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman gave a speech calling for European countries to combine their coal and steel production under a single European institution, paving the way to our current European Union.

For seven days every year, bakers up and down the country sell doughnuts to raise money for The Children's Trust. Every doughnut sold by participating bakers in National Doughnut Week raises money for The Children’s Trust, a national charity that provides specialist care and rehabilitation for children with multiple disabilities.

bullet9 - 15 May 2010 Christian Aid Week
Christian Aid Week is an annual door-to-door fundraising drive by the charity Christian Aid. Christian Aid works with 700 local organisations across 50 developing countries. Working with poor communities, it trains people to deal with the effects of climate change and prepares them for the threat of natural disasters.
