How I celebrate Easter in England.
Woodlands Junior School is in the south-east corner of England

Hi, my name is James and I want to tell you what I do in England during the festival of Easter.

Easter is the time when we celebrate the resurrection of Christ from the dead.

At school we have an Easter competition. Last year it was an Easter Bonnet competition. We designed and made colourful hats on the theme of Easter and Spring. This year we are going to make Easter Minature Gardens. I am going to make mine in a tin and plant real plants.

egg huntWe also have an egg hunt. This is my favourite Easter activity at school. Small chocolate eggs are hidden around the school and we try to find them.

We have two weeks off school when it is Easter. We finish school a few days before the Easter weekend.

Hot cross bun

On Good Friday, my mum toasts Hot Cross Buns for tea.

I like them with butter.

On Easter Sunday, I get up very early. My family join other families on a hill to watch the sun rise. We then have breakfast with the other families.

church

After breakfast we all go to church for a service to celebrate Jesus rising from the dead.

chocolate eggsAfterwards, at home, everyone gives each other chocolate eggs. Children in England get big ones filled with sweets. I do not eat mine all at once, that would be greedy. I save some of mine to eat during the week.

I usually either play on my Playstation or I watch television forthe rest of the morning.

For dinner (12:00 noon) mum cooks roast lamb.

After dinner, my mum and dad hide small chocolate eggs in the garden for my sister and I to find. I love playing this game and usually beat my sister in collecting the most. Of course, I always give her some so that we have the same about.

Later in the afternoon, my aunt and uncle and cousins come over for tea. We have a special Easter Cake for tea.
