Roman Villas

The term villa is normally used to describe a property or estate in the countryside, usually associated with farming.

A number of Roman Villas have been discovered near transport routes such as Watling Street in North Kent, or river valleys such as the Darenth Valley in West Kent.

Lullingham Roman Villa is an outstanding example of a Roman villa. Nestled in the Darent Valley in Kent, it was clearly the home of a rich and well educated family.

The villa had a sophisticated bathing suite, underfloor heating and intricate mosaics of mythological scenes which can still be seen today 2000 years after they were laid down.
