Year 6 visit Chatham Dockyard

On Tuesday 29th September, Year 6 visited Chatham Dockyard. Throughout the day, the children enjoyed lots of activities which involved attending different workshops. The workshops were about rationing (where the children were treated to War times foods!), walking on HMS Cavalier, dancing and singing along to War music (including Glenn Miller and Bud Flanagan), and taking shelter in one of the many underground shelters at the Dockyard.

Year 6 Recreate the Jarrow March

As part of our Britain Since the 1930s topic work we have been learning about the depression during the years 'before the war'. In the town of Jarrow, near Newcastle, 80% of the workforce were made unemployed when the shipyard there closed down. 200 men marched the 300 mile route to London to make their plight known.

Today, Year 6 took part in their own Jarrow March, drawing attention from onlookers by carrying their own banner and placards and loudly protesting about their lack of jobs and money to support their families back in Tyneside.

They met 'The Prime Minister's secretary' (Mrs Wade), who informed them that their journey had been a waste of time as he was far too busy to see them. She instructed them to return home on the train to their families.

Myst Writing - Year 6

You may remember that earlier this year some of the children took part in the Myst writing project when Tim Rylands visited the school to introduce the children and staff to the inspirational Myst computer-generated worlds. As a response to this many of the pupils have had a chance to let their imaginations take them on writing adventures. Here are just a few examples of some Year 6 pupils' work:
