Newsletter 13 - 11th December 2009

Earlier in the week we all thoroughly enjoyed the Year 3/4 nativity, ‘A Child is Born’. All the children have worked so hard and they acted and sang beautifully giving a lovely performance both in the evening and the afternoon.

Thank you to the many parents who attended the Carol Concert last night. We were rather overwhelmed by the numbers attending - many apologies for those of you who were standing. It was a really magical evening with wonderful performances by the children – and the staff choir.

Thank you to all the staff who have worked so hard to produce both events – and to the Friends' Association for providing mulled wine and mince pies at the Carol Concert.

Christmas Pantomime – Years 5 & 6

Years 5 and 6 seem to have been invaded by pantomime creatures this week. I have seen the Seven Dwarves, Cinderella, a wolf and a fairy godmother around school this week. Has someone muddled up all the pantomimes? All will be revealed in next week’s production of ‘Pantocrime’. We still have plenty of tickets for the afternoon performance – so please contact the school office if you would like extra seats. The back gate will be open for both performances.

Christmas Dinner – Tuesday 15th December

We are all looking forward to Christmas dinner on Tuesday 15th December. There is still time for your child to participate, if you would like them to. Please let the school office know and enclose £2.50. Thank you. Please don’t forget to provide your child with a packed lunch if they are not having the turkey dinner.

Christingle – Thursday 17th December

You should have received home a note about the Christingle Service which we hold in school each year. Please remember to send in an orange, four cocktail sticks (with dried fruit on) and a birthday candle in a holder. The children will then put these together during the service and bring them home for you to light. After Thursday (!) the children should be able to explain to you why we make these.

Secret Presents

An enormous thank you to all the Friends for their hard work in setting up the Secret Presents stalls, last Friday. I was amazed by the quality of the gifts and by how much care had been taken to wrap and present them so beautifully. A special thanks to Mrs Allen and her Mum for their gift selection skills.

Severe Weather

We will always endeavour to keep the school open in all circumstances and will only close if we perceive a health and safety risk – or if we do not have enough staff to supervise the children. However, in case of severe weather, please listen to the local radio stations where school closures will be listed. Details relating to our school will be posted immediately onto our school website. When ParentMail is up and running, we will be able to communicate such information via a text message.

Alert

Could you remind your children about the dangers of accepting lifts from strangers? A Mum and child were recently offered a lift near Capel School – and the driver was very upset when they refused.

O2 Concert

We will be placing an order for DVDs next week so don’t miss out – please return your slips by Monday 14th December.

Charity Stall

Well done to Shannon, Alisha, Chloe, Amber and Brandon who raised a brilliant £27.68 for The Hospice in the Weald.

Eco Club

Please note that there will be no Eco Club on Monday 14th December. It will restart in the New Year on Monday 11th January.

MSporti Clubs

These will run, as usual, next week – apart from Dodge Ball which will not run on Friday 18th December. All MSporti after-school Clubs will resume on Monday 4th January.

Road Safety

May I once again urge you, when bringing and collecting your children from school, to use care and consideration. When parking your car, please avoid the double yellow lines and only park safely in allowed areas. If you are on foot, please use the crossing provided.

Lost Property

We have had a plea from a parent whose Year 5 child has lost his coat. Could you please check your child has not brought home a coat which does not belong to them. Thank you for your support.

The XP Club

The Parents Only club returns for its 5th run on Thursday 7th January 2010. It offers support to parents of children with dyslexia, dyspraxia, concentration or memory difficulties and meets every Thursday for 6 weeks from 1.00 to 2.30 p.m. at St. Johns C.E. Primary School, Cunningham Road, Tunbridge Wells. It is a free service led by Rosemary Goddard. For further information, contact her on 01732 350143 or rosemary.goddard@blueyonder.co.uk.

Skinners School Job Vacancy

There is a vacancy for a Catering Assistant at Skinners School in Tunbridge Wells. This is a term-time post starting at 9.30 a.m. until 2.30 p.m. If you are interested, please contact Helen on 01892 618520 for further information.

And Finally….

How lovely to see the sun again but don’t put away your winter woollies too quickly – I gather that next week we may be in for snow……
