The River Severn at Bridgnorth

The River Severn divides Bridgnorth into two towns: the High Town and the Low Town.

Distance from Source: 149 km (89 miles)

Height above Sea Level: 31m

Width of river: 47m

The two towns are connected by the steepest inland cliff railway in Britain.

Upstream from the town, you can see a river cliff

Like many towns and villages along the River Severn, Bridgnorth is prone to flooding. The photo below shows the result of fast flowing flood wars on the vegetation. Notice how the branches lean in the same direction as the flow of the river.
