Maisemore is a village just north of Gloucester on the west bank of the River Severn. The weir just above Maisemore marks the limit of tidal effects and of the Severn bore.
Transportation
The River Seven carries/transports lots of different sediment, including rocks, boulders, silt, mud, pebbles and stones. The volume of sediment that a river carries is called its load.

Materials such trees and branches are carried on the surface of the water
The river transports its load in different ways:
- Flotation
Materials such trees and branches are carried on the surface of the water
- Suspension
Very small particles are carried in the water
- Solution
Very small particles of sediment dissolve in the water
- Saltation. Small pebbles and rocks bounce along the river bed.
- Traction. Small pebbles roll along the river bed

Pooh is looking upstream
The video below is facing in the same direction as Pooh is looking. The water should also be flowing downstream i.e. coming towards Pooh.
Watch the video and observe the direction of the water and also look for evidence of transportation.

Think :)
Why is the water flowing upstream?
What evidence did you see of river transportation?

Transportation
Transportation is the movement of material eroded by the river (called the load) from one place to another.
