Lambeth Bridge is a road traffic and foot bridge crossing the River Thames in an east-west direction.

It is said that Lambeth Bridge red colour represents the covering on the benches in the House of Lords and the next bridge downstream, Westminster Bridge, is mainly green to represent the colour of the benches in the House of Commons. The reason given is that the Palace of Westminster (Parliament) is located between the bridges.

Lambeth Palace

On the south east side of the river is Lambeth Palace, the official London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury since the early 13th century.

Horseferry Road on the north side commemorates the lucrative ferry service for horses and coaches run by a succession of Archbishops of Canterbury until Westminster Bridge was built in 1750.
