As I am writing this, the snow has finally melted and we can see the playground! I would like to thank all the staff and children for once again battling the elements on Wednesday. Changing from boots to school shoes has become almost routine! On that note if your child is unable to attend school please let the office know either by telephone or e-mail (office@woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk). Last Friday it took the office three hours to contact the families who were not in school.
Many classes have used the snowy weather to inspire their writing. Do take a look at the display in the lower hub.
In view of the recent weather conditions, it is a good time to remind you all that, should the school have to close due to snow, the website will always carry the relevant information and local radio stations will be informed. Please only ring the school to get this information should you have difficulty getting to the website. We only have one phone line and it gets a little busy!! We accept that some families face exceptional difficulties, however, when the school is open, we do expect all children to attend. Failure to do so may result in an unauthorised absence being registered for your child.
We anticipate communication of any unexpected school closure to be much easier once we have our ParentMail system up and running. So, if you have not yet signed up for this, please do so now (before the next snowfall!).
Many of you will have noticed the absolutely amazing bird sculpture in the lower hub. This was designed and made by Year 4 as part of their work on sculpture – supported by local artist Dorothy Rosser. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience so a huge thank you to Mrs. Littlejohn for organising this. To see the bird take shape, please watch the video on our website.
You should have received home this term’s headteacher question – which is all about ‘Food from Different Countries’. I have already had some lovely responses to this question – well done!.
The school information pages of our website have been redesigned by Miss Ridger and Miss Barrow. They are now completely up-to-date and very easy to navigate. Do have a look – we think that they look fantastic (particularly the portraits of the teachers!). Thank you to both Miss Ridger and Miss Barrow for all their hard work.
Could you please ensure that your children are not arriving at school before 8.40 am. We cannot provide supervision outside for them until this time.
Folly Wildlife Trust has asked us to collect some food for them. This includes, any sandwich spreads, dog food, cat food or peanuts. If you are able to bring something in to help, please hand it in to Anna and Jessica in 5BA. Thank you.
Anna, Jessica, Ana and Emily
I would like to give you advance warning of a meeting organised by Miss Easto. The Kent E-Safety Officer, Rebecca Avery, will be running a workshop for parents which aims to help them understand how to keep children safe when using the internet. Further details will follow at a later date.
Tuesday 9th February is European E-Safety Day. More information about how you and your child can get involved will follow in next week’s Newsletter.
Ever needed advice on how to deal with your child? Ever wished you’d reacted differently? Ever reached boiling point?
On Thursday 28th January 2010 at 7.30 p.m., we are hosting a visit from Bonnie Harris (a well-known author and parent educator). She will be talking about the issues that face every parent with children aged 3-16 and will host a question and answer session following her talk. All are welcome to attend – the event is free of charge and will finish at 9.00 p.m. If you would like to ask a question, please send it in advance to the office e-mail address or place it in the box on the foyer table at school. Anonymity guaranteed.
TMBC Leisure Centres offer a range of activity courses throughout the year which provide juniors (and adults!) with the opportunity to learn new skills and keep fit. To find out what’s available, look online:

Bethany School is hosting an Open Morning on Saturday 6th February to provide visitors with a taste of life in its academic and extra-curricular areas. The School will be open from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
One of our Y5 girls has lost her P.E. Kit and whilst the school has been searched from top to bottom, it hasn’t yet come to light. Please could you check at home that your child has not mistakenly brought home someone else’s P.E. bag.
We have been advised of a computer needing a good home! It is in full working order but lacks a mouse! If you are interested, please contact the School Office.
Hopefully we have seen the last of the snow for a while. Who knows perhaps next week we might get to see more of the bulbs emerging in the Y4 gardens!
