We started the week with some Oscar winning performances in Monday’s Assembly - by the teachers - who were struggling to eat sensibly in the lunchtime hall. The children helped the teachers to think about why we have table manners - and by the end of the Assembly they were able to use their knives and forks properly, keep their mouths closed when they were eating, conduct sensible conversations and listen to each other!
Since that Assembly, the children have all been thinking very hard about making sure they themselves behave with care and consideration when eating in the Hall. As a result we are all enjoying more pleasant lunchtimes.
We are very excited to be welcoming Mrs McCarthy back to school on Monday following her maternity leave.
The Parenting Workshop on Thursday evening was very well supported – thank you to all of you who came along. Staff and parents from all over Tonbridge and Malling soaked up nuggets of gold to help us get the best from our children. I know I have already put one or two ideas into practise, both at home and at school. Thank you to Mrs Usher who organised this interesting and, I hope, valuable evening. Bonnie’s latest book is called, ‘Confident Parents, Remarkable Kids’ and is available from all good bookshops and, of course, from internet book suppliers.
How lovely to see so many wonderful hats in school today. We will let you know in next week’s newsletter how much money we have raised.
Please remind your child to bring in a named water bottle every day. We encourage children to drink plenty of water but during the winter, the school is unable to provide it from the outside water fountains as they must be switched off to prevent the pipes from bursting. Thank you.
The ideas come from the Food Standards Website (www.eatwell.gov.uk) and are age appropriately balanced. This week, how about:
- Tuna Pasta Salad (with spring onion, green pepper and cherry tomatoes)
- Fruit salad and low-fat fromage frais
- Slice of Banana Cake
- Bottle of water
Bon Appetit!
Don’t forget Joshua’s Toy Sale is this Saturday 30th January from 10-12 a.m. at Tonbridge Methodist Church, Higham Lane. He is raising money to help build a school in Uganda.
Well done to Maisie, Natalie, Lucy, Lewis, Harry and Sam (all from 5S) for raising an impressive £46.70 for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.
Despite the cold and the rain Woodlands had another successful evening at the football league. This time it was the turn of the 'B' Team who won all of their matches, details below! Congratulations to all of the boys who once again demonstrated excellent teamwork. Our nail biting match against Hildenborough was a good example of how the boys pulled together to come back from losing at half time and pull off another fantastic win. The final scores were:
Woodlands 'B' vs Long Mead 11 – 1;
Woodlands 'B' vs Cage Green 13 – 0;
Woodlands 'B' vs Hildenborough 7 - 4.
The 'A’ team played against St Margaret Clitherow in what proved to be a strongly fought match throughout. They were beaten in the end with St. Margaret's scoring two goals in the final minutes of the match. Congratulations and commiserations to the boys who fought so hard and only lost 3 - 2!
After many cancellations, our Y6 girls finally played their first netball match this week against St. Margaret Clitherow. They started really well, passing the ball quickly and accurately and their application paid off with a final, fantastic score of 9-0. Thank you to all the adults who came along to support us.
After such wonderful sporting news, I feel inspired to put my trainers on so watch out, you may spot me pounding the streets of Tonbridge this weekend!
