Free Online Games

Our school started to put free games onto the internet a year or so ago, mainly for our own students to play at lunchtime and at home. However, word quickly spread and we found our games pages receiving tens of thousands of visitors every day.

We often get e-mail asking us how we did it. Really, it is very simple. Most games, like the one to the right, are made by other people and they are free to put on your web site. We also have some of our own games which we have adapted.

Take a look at our Woodlands Games to see what kind of games we have. We also have a collection of quizzes, picture puzzles, wordsearches etc made by our students.

Some of our games come straight from the author. They write to us asking if we can feature their game on our web site. However, most of the games come as free downloads from places such as the Java Boutique. We will take you through step-by-step on how to put your first game on your web site. If our 8 year old students can do it, then I am sure you can too! For this demonstration, we will show you how to put Connect 4, onto your site.

STEP ONE: Download Connect4.zip (12KB). Save it to your hard disk. When it has finished downloading, click on "open".

STEP TWO: You next need to unzip the file. We use winzip which is free to download. If you already have this program on your computer, the window below will open when you click on "open".

Click on "Extract". It is a good idea to make a folder just for this game.

STEP THREE: Hopefully you know a little about HTML as you will need to put the following code onto your web page. Once finished, save the game into the same folder that you created earlier.
