View From Classroom Window

Ask the students to write about what they can see from the classroom window. If possible, also take some pictures. Then exchange these with your penfriends.

Here is an example of a photo and description sent to us by a student from our link school in Thailand.

"Out of the window I can see Klang Temple. The temple has a crematorium and chapel. Behind the temple is a school. The sky is blue and very beautiful." - Jittwaran

Daily Diary

Ask the students to write a diary for one week detailing life at school and home. Then exchange these with their penfriends to make comparisons about lifestyles.

Sunrise and sunset

The students did a project with a school in the northern hemisphere near the equator and a school in the southern hemisphere. The idea was to compare the length of day for different countries. Click here for more information.

Country Symbols

Our students selected what they considered to be representative of England and then drew pictures and wrote about it. They then swopped these with students in other countries.

Art Gallery

This can either be done with computer art or real drawings which have been scanned. Create an online gallery where students from around the world can view pictures.

Postcard Geography

This was very simple for us to set up as our website receives thousands of visitors from around the world each and every day. We simply put a plea on our website asking our visitors to send our students a postcard. We have received hundreds of postcards from around the world.

We use these postcards in our lessons. They help our students to learn about the physical and cultural aspect of different countries. We also use the postcards in other activities such as:

  • Locating the countries on maps and globes
  • Measuring the distance cards have traveled
  • Creating a database of countries.

School Life

Students swop information about school life and then create web pages from their findings. Click here for more information.
